Who we are

ProBotanics Ltd is a private limited company registered in England and Wales. It was incorporated on 18 October 2021 under the name Peak Supplements Ltd, and renamed ProBotanics Ltd on 28 November 2023.

The name change went with a change of direction. Peak Supplements sold a sports and bodybuilding range — the kind of thing you would expect from that category. That range has gone. ProBotanics sells single-botanical food supplements instead: one plant, named properly, in a short formulation.

That was a deliberate narrowing rather than an expansion. Sports supplements are a crowded market built largely on marketing. Working with single botanicals meant fewer products, fewer ingredients per product, and a much plainer story to tell — which is harder commercially, and easier to be honest about.

What the range is now

The range is mostly single botanicals — one plant per product. Among them are Mullein Leaf Capsules, Soursop (Graviola), Chanca Piedra, Pygeum Africanum, Tiger Milk Mushroom, Kudzu, Black Ginger, Valerian Root and St John's Wort.

Alongside those sit a small number of traditional blends — combinations that have been put together the same way for a long time, such as our Wormwood, Black Walnut and Clove formulation. We keep the blend count low on purpose. The more ingredients in a bottle, the less any one of them tells you.

Products come in two formats: capsules, and liquid drops taken with a dropper. A few botanicals are offered in both — Soursop Liquid Drops and Wormwood, Black Walnut and Clove Liquid Drops sit next to their capsule versions — so the choice is about preference and practicality rather than anything else. Capsules are tasteless and portable. Drops let you measure smaller or larger amounts within the stated serving guidance, but most botanical extracts are bitter, and drops taste of what they are made from.

Our approach to formulation

Four things shape every product we put out.

Short ingredient lists. Most of our capsules contain two things: the botanical extract and the capsule shell. No fillers, no binders, no bulking agents, no sweeteners or flavourings added for their own sake. This is not a virtue so much as a decision about what a supplement is for — if a bottle is meant to contain a botanical, then the botanical and the container are the parts that need to be there.

The Latin binomial, always. Common plant names are unreliable. Several unrelated plants share the name "ginseng"; several Verbascum species are all sold as "mullein"; "black walnut" and "walnut" are different trees. The binomial — Verbascum thapsus, Pueraria lobata, Prunus africana — identifies exactly which species is in the bottle. We put it on the label and in the product description. It also tells you what to search for if you want to read the source literature yourself.

The extract ratio, stated. Where a product uses a concentrated extract, we state the ratio — a 10:1 extract means ten kilograms of dried plant material were processed down to one kilogram of extract powder. This matters because a large milligram figure on a front label is often the raw-herb equivalent, not the weight of powder in the capsule. Stating the ratio and the equivalent together lets you do the arithmetic yourself rather than take a number on trust. A ratio describes concentration; it is not a guarantee of any particular constituent level, and we do not present it as one.

Vegan capsules. Our capsule shells are cellulose rather than gelatine, so the capsules are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Individual products carry their own allergen information — check the label and the product page for the item you are buying, since these vary.

How we talk about our products

We do not tell you what our products do. That is a deliberate position, and it is worth explaining properly, because it makes our pages read differently from most of the supplement market.

In the UK, health claims on foods and food supplements are governed by retained Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 and enforced alongside the CAP and BCAP advertising codes. Under that framework, only claims that have been formally authorised may be used. For botanicals specifically, a large number of claims have been left "on hold" for years and were never authorised. The practical effect is that for most plants, there is no permitted way to describe an effect on the body — not in general terms, not with a hedge, and not by dressing it up as tradition. Separately, the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 govern products presented as treating or preventing disease; a food supplement must not be presented that way.

Plenty of sellers work around this with implication — a suggestive product name, an image, a customer quote, a phrase like "traditionally used for" attached to a condition. We would rather not. So our pages state what is in the bottle, what species it came from, what the ratio means, how to take it, and what the safety literature says. Where a plant has a long documented history of use in European or traditional herbalism, we may say so as a matter of history, without attaching an outcome to it.

The rest is left to you. Our botanical guides go into each plant in depth — botany, growing conditions, what the material actually is, how the product is made, and the safety picture, including where the evidence is thin or absent. They are written to be read before you buy, not after. If a guide reads as unenthusiastic in places, that is because we would rather write an honest page than a persuasive one.
